I also spoke to my mechanic (who is a Subie racer himself and well regarded in our area for tuning/custom work) and he recommended against the CVT equipped cars. Apparently the CVT does not allow proper engine break in which lead to the plaintiff. I own a 2011 Legacy GT and want a family car that wife can also drive - but nervous to go with FXT 2017 because of the reports I mentioned above. The 2.0 DIT is in no way related to the 2.0 NA engine. I have 3 oil changes on my 17 FXTP with 9650 miles. Not a drop of oil used. Well, I don't either with my FXT. On the other hand, anecdotal responses for 'my car' aren't very useful, although no doubt well intentioned. The fleet numbers say that the FB 2.5 NA engine had problems bad enough to trigger successful lawsuits and lots of posts from actual angry owners, both on this forum and elsewhere. Even so, gobs of posts on this forum refuted there was 'any problem' because that owner didn't have any and fanboy responses are to be expected on an enthusiast's forum. The Subaru's with the issue are overwhelmingly Manual (a few CVT's) 2) a very very tiny fraction of cars are listed in the suit (I actually read the brief, yea like seriously, at the time 5 people. YES FIVE had joined the suit, about 5 months ago). 3) the DIT FA2.0 does have a potential issue and it's carbon. But the jury is still out on that one. All direct injection motors have carbon issues no matter the manufacturer. 4) the main reason for oil consumption was already identified as engine rings being ever so slightly too small.
